Kö-Bogen II
Kö-Bogen II is a commercial and office building in Düsseldorf, designed by Ingenhoven Architects. Completed in 2020, it covers more than 41,000 square metres beside Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz. Sloping green facades shape the entrance and frame views towards the Dreischeibenhaus and Schauspielhaus. The land-art design gives the building a planted, sculptural presence within the city.
More than 30,000 hornbeam plants form Europe’s largest green facade. Their shade reduces urban heat, supports biodiversity and improves the surrounding microclimate. The greenery delivers ecological benefits comparable to about 80 fully grown deciduous trees. A phytotechnological concept integrates these hedges into the architecture, developed with Professor Dr Strauch of Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin.
The surrounding urban renewal replaces car-centred planning with spaces designed more closely around people. The clearest detail remains the immense hedge-covered slopes, which turn a large office building into a living urban surface.
