Industriehaus am Wehrhahn

Industriehaus am Wehrhahn stands in Düsseldorf as a historic office and commercial building from the early twentieth century. Hans Tietmann and Karl Haake designed it in the expressionist style.

Construction lasted from 1921 to 1924. More than six full floors made the building unusually tall for its time, and it became Düsseldorf’s first high-rise office building. Trade and young businesses originally used the premises during the Golden Twenties. A high base floor forms its street-facing foundation, with an ornate colonnade and light tuff-stone cladding.

White plaster covers the upper floors, while cornices divide the façade into strong horizontal bands. A half-storey crowns the structure with battlement forms and arcade-like details. Renovation in 2012 and 2013 restored the base façade and replastered the upper floors while preserving the protected monument. Offices, medical practices and a ground-floor café now occupy the building, combining working spaces with its historic expressionist character.
