Rosenborg Slot

Rosenborg Slot is a Renaissance castle in Copenhagen, built as a royal residence for King Christian IV. Its story began with a private royal garden outside Copenhagen. The castle grew from a two-storey pleasure house into a residence with towers, staircases, and the Knight’s Hall. A moat anchors its early architectural story. Inside, Christian IV’s audience rooms and bedchamber connect royal interiors with the history of the Danish monarchy. King Christian IV died here in 1648. The treasury beneath the castle holds Danish crown jewels, including emerald, diamond, pearl, and ruby sets. The emerald set includes a tiara. Tapestries in the Knight’s Hall show Christian V’s victories in the Scanian War. The King’s Garden stands beside the castle. Renaissance details shape the interiors, with narrow doorways, many stairs, historic rooms, royal artefacts, and woven wall hangings. The Renaissance castle has no lift and includes narrow doorways. Rosenborg Slot belongs to the Royal Danish Collection alongside Amalienborgmuseet and Koldinghus.
