Szilágyi Dezső téri református templom
Szilágyi Dezső Square Reformed Church rises beside the Danube in Budapest, with a red-brick spire above the riverside. Its neo-Gothic form draws attention through sharp lines, vivid colours, and a roof patterned with glazed Zsolnay tiles. Brown, yellow, and green tiles give the roof its distinctive surface.
Samu Petz designed the church and its interior furnishings during construction in the late nineteenth century. The Protestant church was consecrated on Palm Sunday in 1896. Inside, restored benches, stained-glass windows, and new floor tiles bring back its historic character. Nearly three hundred square metres of glass fill the interior with coloured light. Underfloor heating, automated climate control, and energy-efficient lighting add modern comfort.
The restored windows reward a closer look, while the tall spire remains visible along the riverbank. Future plans include improved accessibility, more room for children, and a visitor centre.
