Chiesa dei Cappuccini - Kapuzinerkirche

The Chiesa dei Cappuccini - Kapuzinerkirche is a church in Bolzano dedicated to Saint Anthony of Padua and connected with a Capuchin monastery. Its simple form has a single nave, a forecourt, and a straight-ended choir. The church and monastery occupy the former site of Wendelstein Castle, once the city castle of the Counts of Tyrol. The monastery building preserves frescoes from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. A main altar by Veronese painter Felice Brusasorci presents Saint Anthony of Padua beside Saint Francis of Assisi. A side chapel contains an altar showing the Assumption of Mary. The complex suffered serious wartime damage, while restoration later renewed the church and remaining monastic buildings. The church, monastery, and garden have monument protection. The public garden adds an open green space beside the church and monastery in central Bolzano. The property returned to the Capuchin order after its closure by the Italian government. The garden offers a peaceful retreat in the heart of Bolzano. The wider complex brings religious architecture, historic frescoes, and a public garden together within one urban site.
