Castel Campegno - Burg Kampenn
Castel Campegno - Burg Kampenn stands near Bolzano in South Tyrol, opposite Castel Cornedo across the Val d’Ega. Its medieval silhouette brings together a thirteenth-century keep, a residential palace, and a chapel behind a low enclosing wall.
The Benedictine monastery of Sonnenburg acquired the castle in 1325, before noble families including Lichtenstein, Maretsch, and von Kuepach held it. Johann Weithaas bought the property in 1896 and restored the buildings, while journalist Dr Felix Gasbarra continued the work after the Second World War. Renaissance details shape the palace, especially its portal and corner turrets.
The private residence remains closed to the public, but its three-part structure creates a memorable view from the road near the Colle Cable Car valley station.
