El Peix d'Or
El Peix d’Or rises beside the Hotel Arts skyscraper in Barcelona’s Olympic Port, close to Barceloneta and the sea. Its curved steel mesh suggests a fish suspended above the waterfront.
Canadian architect Frank Gehry created the monumental sculpture for the 1992 Summer Olympic Games. Olympic Port brought new public spaces and opened Barcelona towards the sea. Steel catches changing light across the surface, producing different effects in different weather. Somorrostro beach offers a clear view of the structure.
The sculpture also stands out against Barcelona’s skyline from several parts of the city. Its shimmering frame connects contemporary art with the Olympic waterfront.
