The Baan Kudichin Museum preserves the history, culture, and traditions of a Portuguese-Thai community in Bangkok’s Thonburi district. The community’s story reaches back to old Siam.
The museum occupies a former Catholic family home, whose descendants transformed it into a place preserving community heritage. Its displays connect Portuguese history with old Siam.
On the second floor, the museum traces Portuguese arrival after Ayutthaya and during the Thonburi era. The third floor presents objects from the family home.
A roof gallery looks across the Kudichin community from above. A café, souvenir shop, and garden complete the museum’s visitor areas.
A white rooster against red represents the Portuguese legend of the Rooster of Barcelos. The rooster also represents honesty and integrity.
The museum explains Portuguese roles in Siamese trade, military support, and religious freedom, alongside spices, rice, and European military tactics. King Taksin granted land to the Kudichin community, where it built Santa Cruz Church during the Thonburi era.
The community’s area became known as Kudichin.
