Vliegbasis De Huygens
Vliegbasis De Huygens stands in Amsterdam as a multifunctional building shaped by its former role as an aeronautical engineering school. Built in 1968, the structure retains the industrial, transparent character of that period.
A major renovation introduced offices, a restaurant, and a creative hub for artists and entrepreneurs. Businesses, start-ups, creative professionals, and Altra College students work together under one roof. The 5,750-square-metre building also supports internships and training placements for people gaining work experience. Facade colours and window profiles preserve details from the original architecture. Flexible spaces range from approximately 60 to 300 square metres for businesses and organisations.
Sawtooth roofs, known as sheddaken, line the rear of the building and once covered practical classrooms. Today, a restaurant occupies the space beneath two of those distinctive roofs.
